According to recent reports in the diabetes news, drinking tea and coffee could lower the risk of developing type 2 diabetes . However, the protection might not entirely be down to caffeine, because decaf coffee was found to be particularly effective. The diabetes research was published in the Archives of Internal Medicine .
Those people that drink three of four cups of coffee or tea every day could lower their risk of diabetes by a fifth or more.
Lead researcher Dr. Rachel Huxley was reported as commented: “The identification of the active components of these beverages would open up new therapeutic pathways for the primary prevention of diabetes mellitus . If such beneficial effects were observed in interventional trials to be real, the implications for the millions of individuals who have diabetes mellitus, or who are at future risk of developing it, would be substantial.”
