The pharmaceutical company behind anti psychotic treatment Seroquel have made it clear that they will challenge the opinion that the drug causes diabetes . A legal team has stepped up to three doctors who maintain that the medication causes the chronic disease.
AstraZeneca attorneys questioned evidence in a pre-trial hearing. A US court is investigating whether Seroquel caused a woman in Kansas to develop type 2 diabetes . According to AstraZeneca the evidence is legally insufficient. The company are seeking to avoid a trial.
The attorney for the affected party, Paul Pennock, was reported as commenting: “This is a drug that has been generally accepted to cause this problem. The acceptance comes from extensive peer-reviewed literature.”
