89000 in Pakistan killed by diabetes each year

According to experts, Pakistan will have the fourth largest population of people with diabetes by 2030. The International Diabetes Federation estimate that 89,000 deaths of men and women occur each year in the country due to complications caused by diabetes .

The views were aired at a diabetes awareness walk organised by the National Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology at the Dow University of Health Sciences. The walk was organised to observe World Diabetes Day on 14th November. The theme for World Diabetes Day this year is 'diabetes education and prevention.'

World Diabetes Day is launched by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organisation. Prof Zaman Shaikh pointed out that diabetes was a serious threat to public health. He cautioned that all sections of society must Unite for Diabetes, under the IDF motto.
