According to recent diabetes research, the cost of diabetes treatment will triple by 2034. By 2034, the report indicates, some 44.1 million Americans will have diabetes, whilst medical costs will rise from 113 billion dollars to 336 billion dollars.
The figures were highlighted in a University of Chicago report, and showed that diabetes diagnoses will double by 2034. The report was published in the December issue of Diabetes Care .
The study, which was funded by Novo Nordisk, reportedly concluded: “Without significant changes in public or private strategies, this population and cost growth are expected to add a significant strain to an overburdened health care system.”
