According to diabetes news, those people that live in a neighbourhood with good access to sports facilities and healthy food are likely to have lower risks of developing type 2 diabetes . The study indicates that the surrounding environment has an influence on diabetes risks .
The authors of the study were reported in diabetes news as commenting: “The worldwide epidemic of type-2 diabetes mellitus is largely driven by the combined rise in obesity, intake of energy-dense or nutrient-poor foods and physical inactivity.”
The study was conducted by experts at the Drexel University School of Public Health in Philadelphia. The researchers studied 2,285 adults ages between 45 and 84. The authors reportedly continued: “Better neighbourhood resources, determined by a combined score for physical activity and healthy foods, were associated with a 38 percent lower incidence of type 2 diabetes .”
