The charity Diabetes UK Scotland has organised a major diabetes fundraiser in the form of a charity walk round Strathclyde Loch for the end of the month. It has called for people who enjoy walking and want to help raise money for the charity to take part at 10am on Sunday, August 28.
The Walk the Extra Mile event, which involves walking right round the four-mile loop of Strathclyde Loch, is intended to help Diabetes UK Scotland to improve the lives of people who have diabetes, with all monies raised being put towards supporting research and other diabetes-related projects.
Sara Ling, fundraising manager at Diabetes UK Scotland, commented “We are extremely pleased to bring back our walks towards a future without diabetes at Strathclyde Park this year, this is a lovely walk and is guaranteed to be a great day out.”
She added “There are around 237,000 people with diabetes in Scotland and an estimated 50,000 who have Type 2 diabetes and don’t know it. It is absolutely vital that we do all we can to support people with diabetes and raise awareness of the condition to the general public. People taking part in Walk the Extra Mile are not just enjoying a great day but they are making a difference.”
