#BloodSugarSelfie campaign
The #BloodSugarSelfie campaign was used by Diabetes.co.uk and DiabetesCommunity.com to raise awareness of World Diabetes Day, which occurs annually on November 14.
The campaign showed real blood glucose tests from people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes to illustrate what they have do on a daily basis to manage their condition.
This November, the #BloodSugarSelfie hashtag was seen 4,239,432 times on World Diabetes Day, with 517 selfies received on social media, breaking the previous record of blood sugar selfies within a 24-hour period.
Pop singer Chaka Khan was among those with diabetes who got involved in the campaign, which saw people of all ages send their blood sugar selfies in.
Diabetes.co.uk first started the #BloodSugarSelfie campaign in March 2014. 1.2 million people worldwide saw the hashtag during the first two days and over 1,500 selfies were received.
Diabetes awareness
November of each year is Diabetes Awareness Month, with diabetes awareness continuing to evolve following the inception of World Diabetes Day by the International Diabetes Federation in 1991.
Over the last 23 years, the message has been spread internationally and diabetes awareness is currently higher than it ever has been before.
