Question Corner

"My nearly 4-year-old granddaughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in December last year after going into DKA. What I'd like to know is when a diabetic is low or high how does this make you feel?"

"I've had type 1 diabetes for over 26 years and still, to this day, my symptoms can vary. Some symptoms of highs and low can be similar, such as fatigue and hunger. Low blood sugar is often characterised for me as a feeling of weakness, while I can identify highs by feeling groggy. Everyone has varying symptoms, and as your granddaughter grows up hers may change, as will her ability to detect a hypo and when she's high."
