    Ideas Please

Beetroot salad? Sainsburys be good to yourself only has about 5 grams of carb for a large table spoon. It's my salad addiction, and it's not bad warm either.

Looking forward to that post IanD as I live in Hillingdon and don't currently know what's going on re diabetes support in the area.

    Milk on low-carb

I have found almond milk to be great for anyone who can tolerate cereals or porridge and make a mix of half almond milk, half lactofree for any hot drinks. If I use only almond milk I can detect the taste and thinner texture in the drink but it seems unnoticeable in combination. I know it...

    Low carb breakfasts

I found a recipe in another thread and it turned out really well, http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/breads/r/lowcarbmuffins.htm . Nice if you have to grab something and dash, I've made it with blueberries and red currents so far, but don't see why you couldn't make a savoury muffin with cheese...

4 weeks in and blood sugars rising??

I can only say from experience that eventual consistency with readings depends on time, age, initial fitness and degree that you have reduced your carbs. My mum at 76 has taken 7-8months to get consistent results to the point where she can occasionally cheat ( she is a fruit a Holic ). During...

finding a low carb diet regime

I tend to grate mine as it seems to be a more rice like texture and dry fry in a pan with a little bouillon/stock cube and sometimes a little Turmeric. I also add a table spoon of water towards the end as dry frying doesn't create as much steam as microwaving

finding a low carb diet regime

Andy12345 good suggestions, but if the gentleman likes curry then cauliflower rice is an amazing substitute and looks remarkably like rice so much so my family didn't really notice a difference. Also ready made poppadoms, pre cooked are only a few carbs each and are a great alternative for...

finding a low carb diet regime

It's never too late, my mum changed last year without any help from her doctor or diabetic nurse who were prepared to let her go on with sky high blood sugar and just keep upping her meds until they didn't work anymore or the neuropathy killed her/took her sight or worse. At 76 she has gone from...

    The Yogurt Effect (on me)

A cream yoghurt sounds lovely but a bit time consuming, wish I had the time. The best commercial yoghurt I've found is Liberte Greek at 3.7 gms of carbs per 100gms , it's lovely and incredibly thick. It is Also 0% fat but if that bothers you, you can always add a bit of cream.

    Almond butter bread

Looked up the ingredients on Ocado and estimate around 16 gms carb per loaf so perhaps badcat can tell us how many slices he gets out of it?

    Chocolate Rant!

I have found the secret to eternal chocolate mwah ha haa. Seriously Green an Blacks cocoa powder, it can give an intense chocolate hit and has virtually no carbs unlike hot chocolate drinks that are laced with sugar. Use lactofree milk to lower the milk carbs and a sugar substitute if you like...

    Weight. Any ideas???

I'm sorry you're not doing well, and I hope they find the cause soon. As for adding calories, I understand you cannot eat more but perhaps it would be possile for you to add more healthy fats to your diet (oil or butter to veg, full fat milk etc). If you don't like the thought of that then take...

    Livlife Bread

My mum who is iabetic has found that most of the food aimed at Diabetics is a lot pricier than normal food. She complains quite rightly about the cost but says the choice is pay up or don't have something she really loves like bread a few times a week. I know it is a shame the cost is o high at...

    Low Carb Marmalade or Jam

The reviews on the Holland and Barrett website seems to be very positive on flavour, it will be a little runnier on hot things like toast or porridge. Personally I like the wild Blueberry but again that's a personal taste.
