I live in the south of England. I'm 47 years old and I have had T1 diabetes since 1977 when I was 11. I have developed most of the complications associated with long-term diabetes, including retinopathy, stage 3 kidney disease and peripheral vascular disease. I have had a ray amputation to my left foot and a below-knee amputation to my right leg. I'm blind in my left eye. I currently control my blood sugar with NovoRapid and Levemir insulins and carb-counting.
I've been married for 25 years and have 2 sons. I have a big interest in all things Disney and one of my sons is due to start work in Walt Disney World, Florida in 2014. I enjoy cycling but since my leg was amputated in 2012, I have had to keep my riding to a rolling road in my garage because the hospital will not fit me a leg to use on a road bike due to my poor eyesight. My wife and I take a great interest in diabetes and it's effects and we have built up a large wealth of personal experience in the subject.
