Hi Buckley8219
I also tried the Insight recently and thought there were many great improvements on the Combo.
FYI - roche won't make any money on the Prefilled insulin as this is supplied by the insulin company and not roche. The Insight also is just as waterproof (ipx8) as the Animas pump...
The best features and bolus advice is on the roche combo pump. Medtronic is a good pump but doesn't have the option of a handset and the bolus wizard often has to be over ruled. There is a new roche pump coming early next year called the Insight and I would wait for that. It has a touch screen...
Ketones under 0.6 on a meter are ok . Over that and you should consider extra insulin, especially if you have high glucose readings. Your DN can recommend how much insulin you should take. >1.5 ketones is getting serious.
I have had some poor experiences with the Abbott customer service about the insulinx meter when i tried and had a couple of questions about the calculator algorithm. No-one was able to give an answer when i called (several times) and nobody called back like they had agreed to. Was disappointed.
I have had the chance to try many over the last few years as companies tend to send them out FOC.
I use the glucomen lxplus at the moment as it measures glucose and ketones and needs only a small amount of blood
The contour usb is ok and small.
The worst would be the abbott insulinx.
Almost...
That's great, keep it up. You will soon be an expert in food, carbs and how they affect you! Trick is to stay positive as sometimes it can be frustating
I average 29 units of insulin each day (14 basal and 15 bolus) in which I eat about 140-160 grams of carbs. I use the medtronic pump. If I dont exercise then my insulin sensitivity becomes worse.
If you are using an insulin pump or on multiple daily injections then you should have a case to request blood ketone strips on prescription from your GP. They measure b-hydroxybuterate and are more accurate than urine testing.
Currently I have no problem getting a regular supply of glucomen glucose strips or ketone strips (very occasionally as I don't often need them and they have a long life) for me on prescription. I always use lucozade or glucose tablets to stop a hypo and these I buy in a regular shop.
