Short story: I am wondering if any of you are aware of any undergraduate research opportunities related to diabetes for this summer.
Long story: I am currently in my 4th year of the 5 year chemical engineering masters program at Strathclyde University in Scotland. I am looking to possibly move my career in the medical direction after graduation and one area that really takes my interest is diabetes. I enjoy expanding my understanding of the metabolic condition and thinking of all the ways that we could prevent/treat/better manage the condition. Islet transplantation and the link between visceral fat accumulation and blood sugar control are two areas that I am currently very interested in learning more about. Are any of you reading this aware of any opportunities for undergraduates this summer or have any advice as to how I could initiate a career in diabetes research or treatment/technology development?
