Hi all, I'm type 2 and a bit fed up of the disinterest of doctors who are more interested in handing out pills. I've decided to do a VLCD but not yet found the commercial name for the nutrition used by Roy Taylor of Newcastle University using the DIRECT study does anybody out there know ?

Getting old and everything that goes with it. All the repeats on TV. The drongos who ring me up to sell me things. Religious havens for pedophiles and war-mongers.

My specialist put me on no spuds or sweet potato, no grain products including rice and spaghetti and bread no sugar of any kind and limited fruit especially no grapes or dried fruit. Make the difference up with extra veg. No additives or vitamin supplements necessary, but he wants me to increase carbs when my weight allows it.

It is easy - no portion control either, and it is fun chasing up new recipes and foods. But a nuisance when eating out.

Snake oil salespeople and other slime who try to profit from our condition.

If you are talking about the 600 calorie diet please reconsider.

Is your problem weight or blood glucose levels or both?

You'll find it in the first embedded document on the following link. http://www.ncl.ac.uk/magres/research/diabetes/reversal.htm

Good luck if you decide to go ahead with it.

The proprietary diet program was Optifast: http://www.optifast.com.au/

The Newcastle diet also includes 200cal of non-starchy vegetables per day for a total of 800cal.

One thing mentioned at the Optifast site that is not covered in the Newcastle team's diet guidelines is to include a teaspoon of olive oil per day to avert gallstones.

This is a very good video explanation of the diet and the rationale behind it by Prof Taylor:
