LADA, 55, BMI 23, moderately active. Diagnosed Type 1 in July 2014 after GAD antibody test. HbA1c down from 117 /12.9% to 78 / 9.3% and dropping. Average fasting a.m. BS currently 6.3.
Now on LCHF plus a bit of ex, plus one small daily dose of Insulatard (slow-acting basal insulin) every morning.

Interesting Nicola, although we are on our own 99% of the time I've always found it easier to work with my diabetes team rather than work against them.

Diagnosed T2 in sept 2013, BS levels 20+. BMI 22, age 59. Then diagnosed T1 / LADA in December. On a LcHf diet taking no insulin or medication, and striving to keep my BS readings to dr Bernstein's recommended 4.6 pre breakfast and 5.6 2hr after eating in order to keep as many insulin making pancreas beta cells as possible for as long as I can.

Some people's experiences are terrible. I have an excellent DN who does all the insulin patients and we discuss options; she appreciates that I know a lot about my condition. Hospitals that use Sliding Scale without discussion horrify me. I wonder how many nurses have any idea how to do it properly? I has an op recently in a private hospital and they let me take my own meds and insulin and said they wouldn't do sliding scale as it caused too many problems. They did check my blood as well as myself and we discussed the results; a very sensible approach.

So I said: ‘So, as you can see on {the letter from the diabetes specialist tutors} they're asking for me to have adequate supplies to do x number of blood tests a week.’‘
- Well I think it's quite ridiculous, you don't need that many.

I'm soo happy that my GP is such a lovely person. I never had anything restricted - even when I was requesting 100 strips every week! (Yes, I was doing a lot of testing ). He trusts that the nurse and my hospital team told me what to do and that's what I'm doing.

On the other hand, he doesn't know the difference between needles and lancets (lol)
