Yeah my doctor can be a little difficult so I've asked to see someone else that deals with the diabetic clinics within my doctors surgery. I saw a post on Facebook a few weeks ago about test strips and commented about wanting to have more and a lady sent me a message giving me a link to my rights to ask for more strips so if I need to I will mention that at my appointment.

I've read that LOTS of scans are involved for diabetics, I dread coming to that point cos I had to have an ultrasound a few years ago when I was Ill and had to drink a load of water beforehand but I've got a really weak bladder and the discomfort I was in from the water I drank and not being allowed to pee was insane! Lol

Your so lucky having a good first pregnancy when you didn't know! :) xxx

Yes it was very lucky! No congenital abnormalities but my son was diagnosed with autism at around 3 years old, which is genetics anyway. Hoping this time I have a child unaffected, so staying positive! (Different father- and I don't mean to sound tacky!) just means chances should be reduced.

He was huge when he was born though! I was offered a c section during the planning phase but for some silly reason argued I wanted a natural birth!! At 38 weeks was induced because of high blood pressure and he was 8lbs 4 1/2 oz!! And soo chubby! ^__^

I am a bit nervous but I guess that's just normal.
I'm sure you'll be ok for the scans, i totally forgot about the full bladder thing!
That's good also that you looked into your rights regarding test strips ☺️ So now they must be quiet and hand over that prescription! X x x

Hi hope you don't mind me jumping in - there is NICE guidance for diabetics during pregnancy it tells you what scans etc you get when. You also need your eyes checking about 3 times.

Have you not been to pre conception clinic with a specialised doctor? The nurse at your GPs won't be trained in the special care required I wouldn't have thought.

My little girl is 9months now and it is hard going during pregnancy-I suffered badly with dawn phenomenon, the pump made it so I could control this I couldn't have done without it. I also had the occasional high which stressed me out, ended up low quite alot during pregnancy but rather this than high as better for baby but makes you feel a bit rubbish. You just have to do your best to stick in the ranges before meal 3.5-5.5 and 1 hour after less than 7.5 which is challenging.

I have to say I was completely surprised by how quick my insulin requirements went up. By about my third trimester I was taking about three times as much insulin. You are meant to try have a low GI diet so no fluctuations/highs. It is relentless testing - I tested about 1-2 hours during the day and normally set the alarm to test by bs twice in the night so I could pinpoint when it goes up.

Congratulations- its definitely worth it my little girl is gorgeous (obviously the biased mum I am!!)

Hey, please join in!

I didn't see anyone for pre conception planning but was already taking 5mg of folic acid, and I gave birth to a son in 2007 and luckily he was fine! (I don't know if you read I wasn't aware I was pregnant until 6 weeks) and that was very lucky.

I'm meant to be referred to the team that deal with diabetes during pregnancy but haven't heard anything yet. I'm not on a pump either, neither was I for my first pregnancy.
Did you have many highs though? It's really stressful when it happens, last night before bed I was 6.5 and then woke up at 4.30 am and I was 11.4 which made me panick. This morning was 5.5.

Did you notice it going up in the first trimester? I can't remember how I coped years ago with my son but was seen pretty quickly by the hospital.

Hey, I'm good thank you, how are you doing?

I was told bt the diabetic nurse I have an early scan next Thursday when I'll be around 8 weeks, but then I received a letter saying I has a scan booked in late September ?! It annoys me when things like that happen, I'd be more than 3 months and the letter said it was a dating scan! Dumb.

Ooo, also when I spoke to the diabetic nurse she said that my average of 7 before I fell pregnant wasn't perfect but ok, as she knew of women to have successful pregnancies when theres was slightly over but they regulated it during pregnancy. Not making light of it as I know how important sugar levels are at this time but she reassured me not to worry if it does creep up, just get it back down as soon as possible!

Anything new for you? ^__^ x x x

Oh that's reassuring about your levels isn't it, I'm sure you will get them spot on again when things calm down a bit with your hormones at least you know it's not the end of the world :)

I can't believe they done that with your scan it's ridiculous sometimes the confusion they can cause you because on dept doesn't communicate with another, id ring them and ask because you should surely be having it sooner than that.

I'm good thanks, into the habit of having folic acid now and really trying my best with low carbing, got my average reading on my meter to 7.4 so it's coming along nicely for when the time is right for me, had a letter today to say I need to make an app for diabetes check at my doctors, but I've been going to the hospital for it for the last year and now I'm on a pump I have to attend the pump clinic at the hospital so no idea why docs have sent me this letter! Got blood forms for a a1c with it though so think I'll go have that done to see how it is but bin the letter for docs lol xx

Yes! They just confuse people, that's so stupid of them and I'm calling on Monday.
In my experience the doctors know much less than the hospital, when I went back recently I came away feeling like i'd gained a lot of new knowledge ^_^ and gadgets!
That's good about your average
Does it get hard not having any carbs? Id miss biscuits ^__^
I hope your journey continues to go well! x x x

I have some carbs, couldn't cope without any haha but I miss bread n pasta more than sweet things, I started buying rich tea fingers cos there only 3 carbs per biscuit so can have one of them when I really need a biscuit lol it's crazy how my body must have started to adjust to it cos i had a Chinese last week as a pay day treat and I had the most horrendous headache for a good 24hours after it cos there was so many carbs I never get headaches I was so shocked by it, couldn't resist the egg fried rice lol wish I had when I seen my bg level after it though haha

Hope you sort out the scan date with them tomorrow Hun xx

Egg fried rice is too yummy ^_^

My sugars have crept up to 16.8 :(. They've been so good so this has really worried me. Done the insulin to correct it but I keep getting annoyed, as people say about right sugar control yet it's unrealistic to have it perfect all the time, especially as hormones are making your sugar level behave differently .

Have the early scan this Thursday then seeing the diabetic team afterwards. I'll let you know how it goes but I feel so worried now :((( xxx

Aw no, has it come down after the correction? Had you had something sweet/carby or is it just one of those things?

Best of luck for Thursday it's good you get to see the diabetes team after the scan , don't beat yourself up about the high reading you've been doing brilliant! :) xx

Hey, wandering how you're getting along ? ^__^

I just had a 17 reading :( but must've been like that for 5 minutes and getting it down now. The nurse has told me last week when I had a 15 mid morning after breakfast, you have to have the highs to let you know your body is changing and you need more insulin. Most of the time I think I'm doing ok,just doesn't help when some people say about it has to be perfect constantly (because I'm sure they had a few high readings also in the first trimester especially :() not being careless! Just I think I make a big deal whenever I've had a high sugar, but like you told me on here, I'm sure lots of women get it in the first tri.

Anything new?!

Hope you're doing well :) x x x

Aw no it must be so hard when your doing well an then the highs just come out of no where. But like you said at least you know that and correct it. Makes sense that it's just your body's way of making you aware of the changes going on!

How did your scan go?

No changes for me really, been trying to work out when I'm ovulating and things to help the planning. Rang my diabetes team to ask if I can go in to see them cos I've seen girls on here saying they have attended a pre conception clinic but no one has got back to me get :( xxx

I never went to one, but maybe if you call your dr and ask about chasing up the referral and just annoy them until they sort out an appointment!

Also I never bothered about knowing when I was ovulating. Someone told me it's between 8 and 11 days from your last period or something (don't quote me on that!)
I didn't find out much as it was an early scan, at the 12 week one, (in 3 weeks) I'll know a little more! Really excited but also nervous as trying not to test too much as I'm getting through 150 test strips a week. Kind of excessive ^__^

Yeah I'm going to keep bugging them tried ringing again today but didn't even get an answer, but I won't give in :)

Oh well as long as you found out that everything was ok so far at your scan that's all you can ask, you 12 week one will be here in no time! :D xx

Hey, how are things with you?

I found out at my 12 week scan I was 13 weeks, so 15 next Tuesday.
Baby is ok so far (was upside down!), just now have to have more insulin as yet again sugars creeping up and it's worrying me :(.
just want little baby to be ok, and I know I must seem like I'm stupid as I seem to be on here when things are bad, just i get afraid as sugars haven't been as tightly controlled as they were with my first pregnancy (littlw surprise
