What should I do if I get very low in Blood Glucose when I'm low carb ing? Been OK for first 4 days, but now I feel very wobbly and sweaty !

Hi, what kind of readings are you getting ?. I too have occasional weak and wobbly spells, but it wasn't glucose being low. Carbs or the lack of them can make you feel weak and washed out ...but it does pass...or so im reliably informed :)

I was down to 3.6, and that only a hour after lunch. I had a couple of crispbread with a smear of jam, it must just have been enough, because I feel fine now.

Are you on insulin, if so you need to reduce your insulin doses to stop you from going hypo.

I assume you're T2 Annie, and yes that does seem low, but being on low carbs, sometimes you need to eat small but often.

I would happily much on jam and crackers all day....if only I could :)

Yes, I am T2 on basal insulin, and the reduced need for insulin may (I hope!) be the result of low carb ing. My concern was the 'right now' low sugars and feeling wobbly.

You did the right thing by treating the low, just keep an eye on your bg levels and adjust your insulin dose again if need be.

Thanks pavlovsdog. I carry those things too, but today I was at home, so could seek alternative sources of carbs to stave off the hypo.

Hi, I would also test your background/basal insulin and tell your nurse the result and what is happening.
your before bed and this morning before breakfast, is a good place to start your diary. the nurse may adjust your dose, because there may be some excess, that is working as a bolus

I'd get my basal dosage right before I continued with very low carb

you may also need to add some salt for dizzy, sweats and headaches that may happen when your BG isn't hypo

I'm not on insulin, but one thing I have noticed while low carbing is that the rises and falls are slower.

So my BG is much less likely to shoot up or crash down. Presumably, insulin would need to be adjusted to allow for this?
