A word of encouragement. It can be done.

I was diagnosed with diabetes in August 2013 and was prescribed Metformin.
I told the GP I wanted to try to manage it with no pills. I hate pills.
He was very sceptical and said I couldn't do it but reluctantly agreed to let me try.
The Hba1c steadily reduced.
The GP admitted he had panicked after my glucose test as it was sky high.
Two years later I have lost 2 and a half stone and my latest Hba1c blood test was 6%
I feel better than I have in years.
I haven't been going to the gym or starving myself but I have been more active and walk two young
dogs every day and made minor changes to my diet. Ryvita for lunch instead of bread and cider instead of wine
are two of the things I have changed. I did not eat sweet things anyway so no problem there.
Small changes can make a big difference. The weight went on slowly and has reduced slowly too.
Don't be despondent if you have just been diagnosed. It can be managed.
