    Substitutes for Mash Potatoe

Celeriac is good. Has it's own taste but I find it delicious.

    Rename Type 1 Diabetes

Even if those views are bigoted? How about the assertion that mothers cause their children to become type 1 due to vitamin D deficiency? So the children aren't to blame but their parents are, so it's the parents that need to take the responsibility for the bullying? By the way, I am playing...

    Strange advice?

Complete rubbish if you ask me. My last was 5.3 and the only hypo I've had was after a very heavy night on the beer :D . Went down to 2.3 or so, not nice!

    Should we ban butter?

Ha ha When I went to the sleep clinic, I explained I no longer needed treatment. The consultant didn't want to know about my diet, he put it all down to the weight loss! I kept saying, "No, the sleep apnoea went within two weeks of low carbing. And I was suffering many years ago when I was far...

low carb diet and hypo unawareness

I'm a type 2 and think I have good hypo awareness. I function very well at 3.8+ but can tell instantly when I am 3.6 (never seem to fall below this). When you are used to stable, low BG numbers it becomes far easier. The worst ever was a 2.3, that was after a VERY heavy night out on the beer...

    Sugar free biscuits

I wouldn't get too hung up on the numbers if I'm honest, personally I'd consider anything below 50g as low carb, but striving for stringent definitions is not something I'm too interested in. Just eat to your meter and you'll be fine!

    How do you deal with....

Rule 1 - Never feel guilty for your high carb lapses. Rule 2 - Remember to carry out Rule 1 But seriously, it does get easier. I used to make frozen full fat yoghurt flavoured with Da Vinci's syrups - hazel nut with real hazel nuts. I tend not to bother with sweeteners any more though. On the...

    Salt intake.

I'm lucky that salt doesn't seem to affect my BP. I have a monitor and my results have just got better and better over the last year. I am now in the normal range after years of high BP, the only difference is that I'm now low carbing. Make up your own minds.

    Should we ban butter?

Well I'm eating loads of butter, lard, cheese and cream. In the absence of starchy carbs I have dropped five stone in weight, my blood lipid panels are the healthiest they've been in years, I reversed fatty liver disease in a couple of months (when I was advised to go on a low fat diet and...

    Don't forget the proteins

Personally I think most oils or fats that haven't been processed are good fats. And for most people following a low carb diet, their inclusion isn't a problem. If you have a reaction to fats then of course it's difficult to include and you can only do what you can do. As for low fat hydrogenated...

    Fat

I follow a typical low carb diet really. I eat as 'natural' as possible, I rarely eat processed foods, whether that be low carb substitutes, sweeteners, meats or highly processed oils and fats , preferring to cook everything from scratch. I eat good quality proteins, meat(skin on) and (loads...

New product - Diabetes.co.uk Alert ID

Priceless!!! With regard to the band, it's difficult to see how it could be made discreet enough that people would wear it, and yet alerts others to it's purpose! Look too clunky for me, and too bold, but then I also guess that that is the point! :? :? :? :? :? :? :?

    Fasting

I have gone an entire working day without eating. Not deliberately, just missed brekkie and forgot lunch one day, on testing I was 3.9 (which I'm very happy at) so no liver dump for me it seems. Since then I missed a few lunches without any adverse effects. Why is it that some people liver dump...

    View on low carbing.(part two)

Priceless!!!        So using your logic, are all the anti low carbers merely seeking to have as many people as possible on meds and with complications so they can feel better about their own predicament? No, that would be ridiculous, just as...

    Fat

For me the fats merely replace the carbs. I have tried to maintain my protein intake at my pre diabetes level.
