    Type 2 Sharps box

We just put them in the bin with normal rubbish. I think I was told that only needles and sharp stuff needed to go in yellow box and everything else in domestic waste. Empty insulin pens, cassettes, fast clix thingys, empty insulin penfills all go in the bin here. You could get a mobile cassette...

    Any advice?! Freestyle Libre

Thanks for your replies... have tegaderm and opsite to try. I've opsite on it at minute and it's as far round as I can get it. Finding the opsite a wee bit itchy [emoji51] but they seem more robust than the tegaderm patches. My son uses the tegaderm and his DSN got GP to prescribe them which was...

    Any advice?! Freestyle Libre

I've been using the libre for about six months... have found I've much better control and HB1ac improved significantly. I really do love it. One sensor failed and Abbott replaced absolutely no problem. Great customer service. Only problem is I am really clumsy and always rushing about... I've...

My son's took 4 weeks... non diabetic. My renewal took about six... think they make a decision as to whether they need to contact your GP.

    Glucose meters

Hi there... Can anyone tell me if NHS are supposed to give meters free to T1 diabetics? My 13 yo usually uses his Libre which we self fund and has an Accu check mobile which he used as back up. He got this from the DSN on diagnosis at the hospital. He broken the accu chek and our GP surgery said...

Insulin doses for T1 13 yo

After discussion with PDSN we are cutting out tresiba completely and just using novorapid to see how he goes for a bit. Thanks for all your reassurances! Hopefully this will give him some relief from the endless hypos! Thanks again Sarah x

Insulin doses for T1 13 yo

Thanks for your replies... Yes we are carb counting. The ratio we were given is currently 1:55 but that def needs tweaking. We are just concerned that the doses seem so exceptionally low! I know it's very individual and this is unlikely to last.

Insulin doses for T1 13 yo

Hi there... My son was diagnosed at start of March. He is taking tiny amounts of insulin... 5 of long acting and 0.5-1.5 of short acting depending on what he is eating. At times he is not taking any insulin if he's doing PE/sport. He is finding that he is struggling to keep his blood levels up...

    Can anyone offer any advice?!

My son (13) had his first day back at school after diagnosis at start of March today(two wks Easters hols). I went to sch with DSN and saw the matron and care plan was agreed. He went to her office to do his insulin and asked if he could do it after eating and was told he couldn't ( he has...

    GP being an a**e.

I am T1 and tried to b as nice as possible! My chemist is v good and she has 'lent' needles etc so I'm not having to reuse when the prescriptions are late. GP doesn't seem to read notes at all ... Twice I saw him and he didn't seem to b aware I was t1 and using insulin. Only changed GP as old...

    GP being an a**e.

To be fair he hasn't restricted the test cassettes but 2 cassettes doesn't last even two weeks and it's a pain. Receptionist was downright ignorant when I asked for increase...I'm lucky to get free drugs apparently

    GP being an a**e.

Can I ask how much ur GP will prescribe? I moved practice in October. New GP won't give more than 5 pens of novo rapid/levemir. One box of needles at a time two cassettes for my bg machine. Fed up of constantly running for prescriptions!!I've asked for an increase but seems 'dr says No'. Am I...

    Outrage! DAFNE after 1 year

I wAs told that in NI you must be diagnosed a year before they even add you to the waiting list for dafne and then it could be more than 6 months after that you might get on a course. I get told one thing by DSN, another by GP , different advice again from consultant. Who to believe!!? Was...

    Fed up!

Hi there ... Looking for a bit of advice. I was diagnosed on 26th aug with type 1. I was in hospital for three night with DKA. My blood was 32.7 when I was admitted. Am now taking novarapid and levemir. I feel utterly overwhelmed and a bit lost and have already had enough of diabetes. My hba1c...
