Looking for some guidance and questions to ask

Just thought I would check in. Our daughter is still off of insulin and only having prick tests once a day now, all is normal. Still no idea what caused the problems that created the initial type 1 diagnosis but for now all appears fine

I know -A day in the life of a parent of a Type1 child.

Hi Sarah Our situation has evolved to a point where they have changed their mind and now don't think it is type 1 diabetes! We are waiting for more test results but are now off of insulin and her bloods are staying normal. When she was originally diagnosed she had been unwell for 3 or 4 days...

Looking for some guidance and questions to ask

So....we went to the hospital today for the first checkup. They carried out the HbA1c blood test and checked the results of her blood sugars over the last month and are now questioning whether she has Type 1 diabetes at all! They took further tests and we have to wait another 2 weeks for the...

    Every morning Hypo

Thanks again. We go back to the hospital this week and will ask them. I need to give them a call as well as they need to complete the blood tests which they omitted to do last time so I need to check whether we need to not have her eat beforehand.

    Every morning Hypo

No, not last night. She refused even after much persistence. Wouldn't everybody's sugars drop a little in the night? Sorry...new to all this

    Every morning Hypo

    Every morning Hypo

From what we had learnt we thought a pump might be the right way forward but, putting aside the hospital advice not to yet, wanted her and us to get comfortable with using needles etc just in case we need to again. We will do the night time testing as well, thanks for the advice. I admit that...

    Every morning Hypo

Btw, the hospital are advising us against the pump due to the very low amount of insulin she is having and her being in the honeymoon period

    Every morning Hypo

Thanks. Could you make some suggestions for a suitable meal. Just worried about her going to bed on a full stomach

    Every morning Hypo

She doesn't have long acting insulin. Only 0.5 before each meal of novorapid. They tried the long acting but that was dropping her sugars even further so we were advised to leave it for now. We are not checking her at 3am - they haven't said we should??

    Every morning Hypo

The hospital and diabetic nurse. She was diagnosed Type 1 just over a month ago when a blood test that was done by chance when she was unwell for several days and not eating properly revealed very high blood sugars (16 I think) and ketones. She is eating well in excess of her suggested minimum...

    Every morning Hypo

So, we are just over a month in with our daughter, nearly 3yrs old and every morning is a nightmare of blood tests, hypo treatment, blood test again, insulin, breakfast and then get ready for nursery. Always a challenge with any toddler never mind one that apparently has diabetes. She normally...

Looking for some guidance and questions to ask

So.....we found out today that the hospital did not carry out the full set of tests and a core one is missing and needs to be done. They still feel she is diabetic but having seen her blood sugar levels since being diagnosed there was obvious surprise that they have remained so low and...

    A week in....

Hi. He is involved with this so all good there. Lots of history is causing this, he struggles with anxiety a lot and we have had counselling and will have again further support. He has challenges around social engagement and struggles with some of the realities of life. He is...without...

    A week in....

Well......be careful what you wish for. Putting it nicely, I woke up yesterday to my wife being ill. It looks like she has caught the stomach bug. Best place for her was bed for the day. Rosie was generally ok in the day but not eating with her normal gusto. Her blood sugar was 3.2 at breakfast...

    A week in....

Best laid plans and all that....... ......well our weekend was a shambles. Not because of Rosie's diabetes, we were prepared for that. What we was not prepared for was a reoccurrence of a stomach upset that she had a few months ago resulting in.....how can I put this nicely......both ends being...

    A week in....

I should say that currently we are under instructions to eat as much as she feels, providing we hit at least 20g carbs for breakfast and lunch and 30g for dinner

    A week in....

They drop primarily over the next hour but not by a great deal. She is normally in the 5-6 range before her next meal so the range from meal to meal normally follows the pattern (pre meal>between meal>pre-meal). With the exception of breakfast where, providing she has not woke up hypo, she is...

    Confused and so emotional

Hi, our daughter was diagnosed 3 weeks ok and she will be 3yrs old in August so it sounds very similar. She also has took to the injections very well. 3 weeks in and we have claimed ourselves a little but it would be wrong to say we aren't a little scared, she is our daughter after all. We keep...
