T2s: What was your fasting BG this morning, and what did you eat yesterday?

Surprising that! The BGs are supposed to PEAK at 1 hour after a meal, and then come DOWN about two hours after the start of the meal. In your case, it appears to have happened the other way round! Would like to have some more readings from you, if you don't mind. It would be very illuminating...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Thank you. No I didn't exercise - deliberately, just to fathom what was going on! Very enigmatic the readings can be!

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

8.1 at 5am and 9.9 (!!!!) at 6am with only a black sugar free coffee in the interim. Ate nothing after that and it was down to 7.6 at 8am. Any explanations please? T2 on Metformin only.

Shorter, more frequent walks after meals produced lower blood sugar estimates than a single walk.

Going from 9.5 to 7.7 in 15 minutes is nothing remarkable and may not have had anything to do with the 10-minute walk! It happens to me all the time, without any walk. I think when the bg is on a slide down, it can drop like a stone in minutes!

    Type 1: Tiredness

Not surprised about your doctors' or nurses' reactions, i.e. it is not uncommon at all, indeed quite common. If it's not "oh, because you are a diabetic", it might be something similar and equally banal and stupid, like "oh, it's your age" or "you're never going to get BGs down to 47-48...

    Target blood sugar ranges

In the NICE guidelines for target blood sugar ranges, the table populated with different targets for different types of diabetes and times of day (or meal status, e.g. pre-, post-prandial) does not include a figure or range for Type 2 diabetes under "upon waking' whereas it does so for...

Why Cutting Carbs From Your Diet Is A Bad Move

Thank you SunnyExpat. Actually I have been reading posts on different fora for a few days now with great interest, and have come to the conclusion that a large number of members know far more about diabetes management than most diabetes nurses and GPs. For instance, a nurse insisted that HbA1c...

Why Cutting Carbs From Your Diet Is A Bad Move

Agree. Had I not had time to click the red headline, I could have gone out/away worrying about my recent decision to try low carb way of eating (and gratefully discovering how efficacious it can be in controlling spikes following a meal. So, yes irresponsible if only on account of the...
