    maternally inherited diabetes and deafness

My mother was treated for T2 for many years and passed away in 1995. I have since been diagnosed with T2 but have never seen a specialist, only my GP and DN. How would I go about getting tested to find out if my diabetes is maternally inherited? My biggest concern is for my daughter as, if she's...

    Unexpectedly high HbA1c

Thanks @ringi, it does help to know this. I hadn't made the connection between "fatty liver" and Type 2. I've had all the tests for liver cancer and hepatitis, etc. and all were negative. The only tests I'm waiting on now are for Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. I'm planning on using the next...

    Unexpectedly high HbA1c

Thank you for your concern @Mr_Pot. I have been properly diagnosed with liver fibrosis by a consultant after a liver biopsy. The jump in HbA1c is being investigated by my GP and DN. Metformin has been doubled (to 2000g/day) on the advice of my DN. Tests are currently being done to investigate...

    Unexpectedly high HbA1c

Hi, I was diagnosed with Type 2 a few years ago (maybe about 10). My HbA1c has been fairly constant in that time between 48 and 53. I was very keen to control this initially and I bought a BG monitor and kept a spreadsheet with the results (and pretty graphs). However, the DN ignored anything...

    Weight issues

I find that 50g of nuts makes a nice snack - or peanut butter (on something relatively low carb like ryvita). For instance, 15g of Asda Smooth Peanut Butter (according to MyFitnessPal) has 2g carbs, 8g fat, 4g protein, 95 calories. There again I love nuts! Hmm, it's fortunate that my hubby...

    Weight issues

I think that if you have a calorie deficity then you will lose weight. If you want to maintain weight but still eat low carb you have to replace the calories that you would normally get from carbs with calories from fats and proteins.

    my fitness pal

No app for the laptop. Just go to www.myfitnesspal.com. My username is Lasermum so anyone is welcome to add me as a friend if you want to. I found it great for setting my own goals. If you set your calorie goal to whatever you want it to be, you can then set your carb goal (mine's set at 50...

    I haven't a clue what to do!!

Thanks for your encouragement everyone, I really need it at the moment - there's a lot going on in my life that's causing a lot of stress in the last few weeks. Sid, I have a sneaky feeling that I'm not Type 2. I sometimes question whether I actually have diabetes or whether there is something...

    I haven't a clue what to do!!

Since January I have been low carbing (usually 50-70g) and have lost 12.5kg in weight. But all my hard work hasn't made any difference whatsoever to my BG levels. In the middle of March I found out that my HBa1c has gone up just a couple of points to 47. Not very high, I know. Any...

    success!!!!!!!!

Constant tiredness is something I've been battling with for years! I have T2. Just on Metforming 1000/day. I've was keeping a check of my BG levels for about 2 months to try to find out what spikes my BG as everyone keeps saying about this but it doesn't seem to matter what I eat so I've given...

    SNOW IN SPRING ...

To return to the original topic, I believe that Largs is presently snowbound. The RYA (Royal Yachting Association) had some training arranged there and had to cancel it! I suppose we could rename my daughter's boat "Titanic"! Although I think she would have frozen to death before finding...

    SNOW IN SPRING ...

Hi Roy, Thanks. We had a weekend event there a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, she won't get to see much of Largs. She travels all around the UK to sailing events but rarely gets to see the actual locations! She'll be spending all day, every day for a week at Largs Sailing Club (or the...

BG out of control, what to try next?

I'd second http://www.myfitnesspal.com as a website for counting carbs. I use it too. My name on there is lasermum - you can add me as a friend if you want to see my food diary. I limit carbs to 100g per day.

    SNOW IN SPRING ...

My daughter has been sailing in Weymouth this weekend  - rather her than me! She's supposed to be sailing in the National Youth Championships (the most important event of the year for National Youth Squads) next week - guess where? - Largs, Ayrshire, Bonny Scotland! :crazy...
