Are you wondering where the Ozempic went?

Seems it will be OTC in the UK soon. Cost seems to be around £20 per week but that may be the wholesale cost to the chemist. I am worried about it being online via a tick box triage questionaire.

Apparently dosage is different for diabetes and weight loss and it does specify it must still be prescribed by a dr (presumably a private one associated with the chemist as is becoming more common)

A quote from the article
"Boots says it will be able to offer the full service - prescribing and dispensing the drug.
"

Superdrug is intending to follow. Not sure about the online pharmacies.

Interesting that the article points out that researchers found that weight went back on when the treatment stopped, quel surprise, non? Treatment for weight loss is recommended to be limited to 2 years, but will there be a lock on just changing to a different pharmacy. Presumably this is not tracked in medical records, so no mechanism to regulate Also will the yellow card system be used to track unwanted side effects?

“Wegovy, or semaglutide, is a prescription drug“
“You need to be overweight or obese to be able to go on it, and it must be prescribed by a doctor”
”It will be available from Boots Online Doctor, with an anticipated launch of spring 2023.“

Update:
Yet another one escapes the diabetes fraternity /sorority I have also seen a report that Mounjaro is also about to be licenced for weight loss and obesity treatment to private practices and online pharmacies. The reported cost to the general public is in the region of $1,000 per month and the plans are for a 2 year treatment period. Soon you should be able to go to Weight watchers or Walgreens and buy it over the counter.

But be aware, althought the weight loss injections are the same active ingredient as the diabetes medication, the dose is 2 to 3 times the strength of the medical use one. This means the drug companies can charge a higher premium for the same drug by supplying the weight loss market than they can get for the medical use product, so guess where the supplies are going?
