blood sugar levels after hernia operation.

I am wondering if anyone has found unusual blood sugar levels after having surgery to repair a Inguinal ( groin ) hernia. I am getting odd readings , some high and some low for no obvious reason. My specialist in the hospital is still trying to sort out my what amounts of insulin that I should be taking, as I have only been on Inslin since August 2013. I am having to increase the amount that she told me to use in order to keep my sugar levels between the target range she gave me of 140 and 180 (8 - 10 ) I take 4 units of HUMALOG before breakfast, lunch and evening meals, and 8 units of LANTUS before bed at night. I have to increase by 1 unit the humalog injections to keep within the target range, most of the time it works but sometimes it is very low , others very high. I am on a diet of 200 gm of carbs a day. Since my operation 3 weeks ago I have had unusual spiking , both low and high sugar levels.

Illness, surgery, stress and hormones can elevate bg so it stands to reason that your bg has been running high after the operation; I do wonder if the low bg has come about from you over correcting the high's......just a possibility!

Anyway hope things settle down soon and you make a full recovery.

My father is a diabetic patient. He has been under medication for about 2 years now. Last year he was diagnosed with hernia and underwent the abdominal hernia surgery. But he didn't have any problem with sugar level. Did your sugar levels used to wary even before the surgery. My dad's were pretty stable and it isn't very high either. The only reason he is having medication is because he doesn't have any exercise. Hope your sugar levels settle down soon.

Probably the reason is that person could have had acid reflux and medicine could lead to get high. Antiacids could evoke also hgih level of sugar in your blood. These are my estimates, I have searched it from information about medications are used to relief hernia.
