I'm using one of those Freestyle Libre devices, so I can see the whole picture in the morning. It concerns me as well a little, but now my range is 4-8 I can usually remain within it even with the Dawn Phenomenon pushing it up from the high fours to the high sevens. A brisk walk will help it come down again more quickly, but it's usually completely gone by 10am if I started at about 7am. You might want to talk to your doctor about Sitagliptin though. Unlike Metformin that does actually help prevent peaks. And it appears to affect exactly the systems that cause the Dawn Phenomenon - cortisol on waking telling your pancreas to produce glaucogen but with your insulin system compromised the accompanying insulin release does not help keep your liver under control after the rush of glaucogen. Sitagliptin apparently helps prevent the release of so much glaucogen so the liver isn't stimulated quite so much. I ran out on Monday without arranging a repeat prescription and I can say that my FGM readings have been between 1 and 2 mmol/l higher for the last three days - making that morning spike look really out of place. I got a refill today so I'll see if it comes back down tomorrow I guess.
