CGM vs SMBG?

That study is almost three years old now. The technology has come a very long way in that time.
As a CGM user, I understand the benefits that it offers, but don't think it's helpful to everyone. There is a considerable group that are disappointed with their CGM because they expect it to be something it's not.
Personally, I think a CGM should be mandatory for children as it's an invaluable tool for parents. A child may not be able to understand the symptoms of a hypo and a CGM can tell a parent what a child may not be able to say.
In contrast, it's hard to see how the technology would be effective with (most) poorly controlled diabetics. I am speaking of the people who have extremely high a1c levels and not people with brittle diabetes or unusual circumstances outside of their control. In short, the technology is good for the kind of person who was already diligent about testing 6-10 times a day, but I wouldn't say it's good for people who are apathetic about their diabetes management.
