Diabetes epilepsy

Been diagnosed for about 5 years now. I know my sugar highs are related to the menstrual cycle, though being menopausal it is anyones guess as to what is happening that direction

I have had a couple of eposodes of where I have passed out, my legs just gave way. I was not comatosed, but not quite compus mentus. My sugar levels were around 7 which for me is fairly low, but not abnormal.

I test first thing in the morning almost every day and figure have been getting higher despite higher levels of insulin. I have been reading that cold night sweats, rapid heart beats etc and then a high blood sugar in the morning is a sign of night time lows.

I was told, take more protaphane, despite losing 15kg in weight morning figures got worse, I am still told to take more .

After a lot of what I have read, my diabetes was under control taking 1/3 of insulin I used to take. I read that my night sweats and rapid heart with high levels in the morning is a hypo during the night sign.

Thoughts please

What type of diabetes do you have @meercat ?

Have you actually done any testing during the night to see if you are dropping low? Without testing to confirm what your blood sugar is doing you will only be guessing.

The diagnosis was either adult onset type one or type two, either way I take two types of insulin. I don't do tests at night because asleep/unconscious.

Hi @meercat, unfortunately, unless you buy a CGM or Libre, the only way to know that your glucose levels are okay overnight is to have occasional nights where you set an alarm and get up every two hours to test. That way:
  1. You can determine that your basal is correct
  2. you may wake yourself up out of a hypo and be able to treat it (also identifying that your basal levels are wrong.
Whilst it's your life, it's also the only way to check that things are working as they should.

Well, if you want to find out the answer you should set alarms to test your blood sugar during the night.
