I was diagnosed in March of this year and I was very worried about hypos in the beginning, too. In fact, I have never had one, and I have since learned that, as I'm not on any medication and am diet-controlled only, it's very unlikely that I'll get one. If you are on medication the situation may be different... But as other members have said, we are all different. I'm not sure that there is any hard-and-fast rule about the minimum BG to go to bed on to avoid a hypo - I think it's more to do with overall general control. But I'm sure other members with greater experience will be able to answer that for you. I personally follow the LCHF plan and it's been really successful for me, to the extent that I can now include a small amount of carbs in my diet without it having too much of an effect on my BG levels. Sugar, however, is still out of bounds, and probably always will be! You can find out more about the low carb programme here: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/lowcarb/ Good luck - and keep sharing!
