Hi all

For about a month I have noticed a couple of small black pin prick sized dots in the left side of my left eye. I have my annual screening coming up soon so was going to wait for that, however my anxiety got the better of me so I went to Specsavers to attend one of their eye health clinics (free to those whom are medically exempt). I had the same sort of tests as you usually have during a retinal screening, the drops, reading the chart and then the photography etc. The optometrist said he couldn't see anything that would make him want to send me off to hospital etc, and explained about floaters, gave me a leaflet. he was of course aware of my diabetes (17 years) and brain tumour (2019).

I don't seem to be getting any accompany flashes, but now that I'm more aware that they're there (and constantly looking for them specifically) I sometimes notice a spider webby type effect. Sometimes I don't notice anything, but against something bright or in higher lighting areas they are much more visible.

My next retinal screening is Nov 8th so not too far away, is this just the same procedure as I've had done or is it more diabetes focussed, I mean is it just a specialist looking at a photo of an eye or ar they looking at something different? When I have health concerns I'm terrible at spending hours on Google and everything says, an increase of floaters is an emergency. I'm not really sure what I should do, wait for my appointment or contact someone?

It's worth pointing out that my last screening Feb 22 didn't mention background retinography (which it had in the past), it just said I wasn't 'at risk of eye disease', which may just be the same thing worded differently

Hi! Just curious how your follow-up went. I´m suffering from similar issues.

I ended up calling the people at the retinal screening place, they booked me an appointment the next day.

The scans said there was nothing to worry about and as I had had two 'no background retinopathy' results in a row, I am now seen every 2 years rather than every year.

The floaters are still there, doing the same thing, but I guess I'm just used to them being there now.

That's great news! :)
