So low carb?

So am I right in thinking that It would be my best bet to follow a low or no carb diet. I have done Atkins in the past. Is the name of the game to drop all carbs if possible ?

Hi Steve!

We all eat carbs and I don't know anyone on a zero carb diet personally but you could certainly give low carb a go-maybe 60 grams of carbs a day as a start and see how you do with your readings and weight loss and use your scales and BG meter to see if you need to tweak it either way.:)

As Paul says you should drop your carbs enough so that you get meter readings in the right range. If with very low carbs you still can't get your blood sugar down then some or more meds are needed

I've just posted about my insulin sensitivity on another post of yours. So I might be a "special case". But I don't low carb. On average I'm about 100 - 250g per day. My last hba1c (September) was 43 (6.1%) so clearly it works for me. Next hba1c will either prove or disprove that for me!

So if you're in range and good hba1c why go low carb? Less carbs means less insulin.... So less severe hypos possible sure. But if you're dosing correctly then that should be no problem.

However if you're struggling to get in range I would revisit the GI of foods firsts and consider the types you're eating. And if you still can't achieve the range then I would consider reducing your carbs slowly and monitoring the effect

The OP is a type 2 and not on insulin.

Can't speak for T1s but as a T2 I would recommend you try try lowering your carbs. If you can't get on with it then just ease off a bit.
Good Luck.

I do low carb and I feel a lot better for it, i'm not religious about sticking to ultra low though, I usually have less than 60g per day and will occassionaly drop to 20g for a few times. I have found it very good for weight loss, but you do need to ensure a small calorie deficit still. Fortunately I find it very hard to eat too much on LCHF.
