What are you going to do to make the UK great again?

Hi All

I want to start this thread, because I feel it is important, that regardless of which ever side you voted on in the referendum, it is time to move on and think about our future. I would like to know what it is you would personally like to achieve in the next five years.

It can be anything you like, from losing some weight, taking up exercise, running a marathon for Diabetes UK, going on holiday somewhere, setting up your own business, you have a great idea, but you don't know what to do with it, joining or setting up a local diabetic group to you or just getting involved with the community as a whole.

Great thread idea!

In five years time I would have liked to have completed all of the work that needs doing on my house (and maybe sell it and buy a bigger one) be financially stable and have had my second child.

All family oriented for me!

Oh and I would have liked to have lost a few stone by then for myself too, which I'm already working on :)

I know the OP talks about personal goals too, but I'll answer the thread title question.

1.Try even harder with my health now because the NHS can't afford to treat me.

2.Vote green in future because traditionally UK governments haven't given a **** about the environment and without the EU telling us what to do in green issues I fear the worst. Our environment impacts on our health and ill-health impacts on our ability to be productive. We need to be productive to earn money and pay off at least the interest on the national debt.

I'm not sure what I can do for the Nation; I think we're in for a rocky few years and having worked myself half to death as a wage slave, I'm disinclined to go back and do it again. Mrs h-c and I plan to take a gap year in about 18 months' time to go to various places we want to see, while we still want to do it. Perhaps while we're travelling, we can try and persuade the people we meet that not all Brits are narrow-minded, insular bigots but it's going to be a hard sell, now.

Sorry to sound like a miserable git, but there's no going back to the glory days of Empire and, having ditched the Commonwealth 50 years ago, and now abandoned the EU, I think we're going to find that we're running out of friends and that those who remain are people (like China, for example) who aren't really very friendly.

But who knows?

PS: I have previously mentioned that, because Mrs h-c was born in Derry, both she and our kids are entitled to Republic of Ireland passports and we're in the process of sorting them out at the moment. I guess the other thing I might try and do is to obtain Irish nationality for myself as well, then we can all move there. (I'm joking - but only a bit).

Unfortunately I don't qualify in the same way, as my ancestors (with the exception of an American Great Grandfather and a Hungarian Great Great Aunt :)) have all lived in the UK for centuries. I guess the only way I'd qualify would be if we do genuinely move to the ROI, when I can get a passport after 5 years' residence, I think.

I love travelling in Europe (particularly France) and I'd like to have an EU passport for that reason alone, never mind any other considerations, so I guess that's something I'd like to work towards over the next 5 years.

I don't think we can really go back to the Empire days.
The first one was based mainly on the slave trade, and that would be frowned on now.
The second one was based on being the dominant world power, private company armies doing what they wanted overseas, ruling the shipping trade, and a lot of opium trading. I doubt that will come back either.

I shall mostly be turning some zeros into ones, but - and also - some ones into zeros. This will have widespread effects on various things that I can't predict because of the butterfly effects, except that it will change the right ones into zeros and zeros into ones in the computer of my bank.

There are ten types of people - those who understand binary and those who don't :D

Ok on a serious note:

My five year plan is this:

A) look after my own health
B) have a healthy family (hubs and fingers crossed a babe also)
C) have a stable job that I work in long term.

I don't work currently but if there was a mass exodus of immigrants and there were jobs that were suitable for me then I would consider working again. I don't want or need to work (our family unit is more traditional than most with me as a stay at home housewife) but would if there were positions that were difficult to fill when the talent has gone back to the EU countries. Of course that won't happen (lol I'm safe) because we will simply fill those jobs with applicants from Africa and Asia when our own workforce has no suitable applicants. Same as we are now really, just people travelling from further afield to do the jobs. (Phew!)

@Lynbarn you haven't said what you'd like to have achieved?

Now that has puts me on the spot. At the moment I feel like I would like to do some sort of public service in some way, in just which way that will go I haven't a clue right now, the other thing would be to move to North Devon as I just happen to like the place so much.

I would like to go and visit Ireland and travel all over it, not sure about going to America but if I was given the chance to go then I think I would if that makes sense.

Help to build a brighter future for our country and encourage everyone to try something different at least once in there lives.

I'd like to finish my law degree and make a decision in which field to specialist. I love a few.
I'll continue to give my growning children direction and the importance of fortitude.
I'll continue to support my partners mental illness and hopefully gain respect and well wishes.

Unkind people, failure to take personal responsibility.
One thing I'd like to do is train as a Diabetic Educator and volunteer with my local surgery to help people manage and improve their T2.
