Hi everyone, I had my first appointment with the diabetic nurse last Thursday. After she had regaled me with all the horrible things that I had to look forward to ie: amputations, kidney failure, strokes and heart attacks she thrust a specimen jar at me and told me to bring back a urine sample. She said something about getting me sorted out on Desmond and an eye test. To be honest I felt bombarded with bad news and just gave up trying to take it all in. Thanks to this forum I know what Desmond is and have a better understanding of the complications of diabetes that can occur. Although she gave me a 4 page printout on healthy eating following NHS guidelines I have decided to ignore that and follow the low carb route. I also bought a BG tester just for my own curiosity. I tested 2 hours after eating meatballs and salad last night and the reading was 8.8 but I am not sure whether this is good or bad or indifferent. I will stick to the low carbing and thought that I might test my BG once a week just to see what is happening. Would this be a good thing? What I would really like to know is what is the next step? When is my next blood test likely to be and will I be having regular appointments with the nurse.? I feel a bit lost at the moment. .
