My blood was around 26 the day I was diagnosed and my HbA1c was 99.0/11.2%. I visitied a pharmacy two days before being diagnosed with all the symptoms of Diabetes and was given some mouthwash for dehydration and told it should solve my issues. Two days later I went to the GP first thing in the morning. He did a urine test which showed signs of sugar and right away prepared me for a Diabetes diagnosis due to family history. He took me straight through to a Practice Nurse to get blood tests done and booked me an appointment for the next morning to discuss the results. Later on in the afternoon I had a call from him to come back to the surgery and to prepare to go to hospital. He tested my urine for ketones. I believe the level was over 2. If there had been a lower level I would have been allowed to go in the next morning but had to go in that evening. Luckily I was very well treated and seen by the Diabetes Team the next morning. I was also lucky to get home that day as the hospital called later in the evening desperate for me to check my ketones right away as they were worried I was sent away.
