Hi folks!

Snapsy went for her eye snap today! I'm currently getting ready for a committee meeting and hoping the blurry disorientation (and mild seasickness!) wears off soon.

I was the ONLY patient in the waiting room for the whole 25-minute period I was there. Apparently 'people don't turn up'. I take monitoring, advice and education very seriously. So I don't ever not go. After all, if I am developing problems I want to know about it so I can take action.

And how else would I get the opportunity to have eyes as wide as THIS ONE for six hours, hmm?

Ah, MS Snapsy what beautiful eyes you have...
Lots of people don't turn up for DSN/ consultant appointments either according to the numbers on the wall at my clinic. Is it because they don't care or because they are in denial?

It depresses me every time I go. The waiting area is often busy, but what sad sights they are. Clearly most of them have complications as they walk badly, shuffle rather than walk, limp, have bandages on their legs, and look generally in poor health. It is so sad.

Hey @Snapsy . You've excelled once again. Never have I been privy to such a close up of someone's eye on t'internet before.
It is frustrating waiting for the effects of those **** drops to wear off.
What is more frustrating is the people who miss/ignore or just don't show for these things. Screening, tests, check ups and the like. I strongly suspect these people are the first to berate the NHS when they actually want something and it isn't there instantly and at the standard they think they are entitled too. Look you've got me ranting now, I'm going to wish you well and go now.:):):):):)

You should go to Kingston, it's packed out every time I take my dad and it always takes a couple of hours. I go to Amersham, smaller unit, always half a dozen people, but always dealt with quickly. High Wycombe on the other hand . . . . . . .

Probably the blurriest eye pic to be found on the entire internet! Mr S (pro snapper) would be horrified!

The three local small hospitals each have the camera and its operator for a period of time - it's like a roadshow - and you get your annual screening appt at your most local hospital of the three. It's not part of a diabetes appointment - it's not a diabetes clinic - they just take over a room in Outpatients and call in diabetes patients just for stinging drops and eye snaps. Job done.

I was disappointed that no-one else was taking advantage of the opportunity to get checked out.

Ho hum.

@Snapsy . We have a similar set up. The roadshow visits the village GP surgery every December time for a week or so. Like yourself I make sure I attend, if they can be bothered then I'm **** sure I can.
Do the results of the screening get relayed to your diabetes clinic?
They do here in my neck of the woods.
Probably the best emoji ( if that's what they are called). :wideyed:

Curiously I'm not sure they do - because at my annual review (annual?! That's another whole thread right there!) they always ask if I've had an eye screening appointment - I don't recall them ever knowing anything about it.

But the screening people do write to me each time with the results, and I'm happy with that.

Poor grammar, bullying and drunks.
I have only had the test once. Four people in the waiting area of a health centre not far from my surgery. They too do a sort of round robin type of affair and I had no problems. I was anxious that the sight disturbance reported by many members may trigger a Menieres attack for me but thankfully I had few problems.

Why people miss appointments without canceling them is beyond me. To me it not only is a matter of courtesy but it really would speed up the waiting times for others who do want and appreciate the tests.

Ours is on similar lines. The unit takes over the outpatients bit of our local community hospital for a period of time. Being T2 I don't have a diabetic clinic, but I think my GP may get a copy of the results, although they don't appear on my on-line test results thing.

Although how on earth you managed to type with your eyes like that is beyond me!
I've been taking the minutes of a finance committee meeting this evening - I'm not entirely sure quite how those will turn out!

Thankfully I can touch type, and I made the notes on my dimmed-screen laptop - so unless I had my fingers on the wrong 'home keys' from the start we might just be okay!

Qw'kk aww.

Sorry, I meant we'll see!

My scan results are recorded on my online GP records.

Yes much better :)

My pupils can still be dilated the following morning.
Blimey!

I had a hilarious one once - had the snap done in the morning, one eye stung much worse than the other - and went back to school with one eye bonkersly wide and black, and the other pupil nor nearly so massive. Other kids kept grabbing their friends to come and view the spectacle of the lopsided druggy weirdo!

Am sure I'll wake up with the eyes I'm used to - I'll be 100% normal by morning.

Last year I had my first retinal screening and the results came back as damage to the right eye but not enough to need treatment. This years results have just come back and they state no damage caused by diabetes. My eye sight has not improved though?
