Hi - new to the forum and have an 18 year old daughter who has been insulin dependant for 11 years. She is in Laos now and I tried to get another 3 months insulin from her GP in the UK today and was told this was not possible and he could only give me a private prescription which we must pay for in full. Does anyone know if this Is correct? She has taken a year out before going to Uni next September and I will be joining her in Laos in two weeks - its also very difficult obtaining insulin in Laos. She is using Novorapid and Lantus.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Rob

Welcome to the Forum. Please see: http://www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/1755.aspx?C ... goryID=105

It looks as if the GP is right and that your daughter will either have to source her insulin needs abroad or for you to get it from the GP on a private prescription.

Regards

Doug

Thanks for the reply - yes it appears the Doctor is correct - I would suggest if anyone is planning to spend over 3 months abroad they stock up before hand!!! - 3 months of strips, needles and insulin £600!! - and I need to send her 9 months supply :-(
