1st Clinic appointment

8 weeks after my first diagnosis I'm off to my first clinic appointment this morning. Apart from "bring a pot of pee" I've not been told what to expect! I've had my eyes and feet checked already so I'm not sure what they're going to do? How long does it take etc?

I can't remember my first appointment to be fair. Write down things you want to ask as if you are like me your mind will go blank as soon as you get there lol

I remember one of my appointments involved lots of tests. Blood tests, feet tests, ECG etc but not had one of them in a good few years!

I had mine about a month ago, it was more about educating me about how to work with diabetes, diet, exercise, etc than any further tests, and to work out what drugs would be most helpful, they set me up with a gym membership and booked me up with a place on an X pert course, and took time to answer all my questions.

Hmm don't this this applies to me. In Type 1 - why would they give me a gym membership?! I'm already on insulin and have relatively good control.

I have no questions, I speak to my DSN whenever I do as they usually can't wait! Oh we'll, i guess ill find out when I get there!

You asked a question on a forum, when answered you then say you have no questions. Kinda silly to ask questions if you know it all already Lol

I meant I had no questions to ask at the clinic about my diabetes. My question here was about what to expect at the clinic as I'd never been through the process before
 
How did your appointment go? Normal routine is to sure around.for a bit, get weighed, blood pressure checked, sit around some more, give clouds for hba1c test, more sitting around to see consultant to discuss how things are, and ask any questions. The whole lot takes about 10 mins but add 1 to 1 1/2 hours on for the sitting around bits in between.

Yup that was about it! hba1c dropped to 72 in 8 weeks so they were pleased with that. Did a HADS questionnaire to and they proudly declared me not depressed, I could have told them that myself haha

Lol, normally go back in either 3 months or 6 months depending on what the consultant thinks. You should also have a yearly retina screening at your hospital

Yes my next one is to be in 4 months. I work offshore (or I did....) so I need regular contact with my consultant so he can approve my travel again eventually.

Retina screening was done a few weeks ago. Seems all I'm missing now is my kidney function test but apparently they're going to do that when I have surgery next month. Nothing like 2 for 1 from the nhs haha
 
nhs seems to be like buses. No appointment for months, then they all come at once lol

I've been wanting a tonsillectomy for years, my mum first started asking when I was 8 apparently. Turns out all I had to do was become diabetic and I'd get on to the top of the list!
