1st time...bit worried..help

i'm sorry to hear your T2 diabetes now needs insulin treatment...

i'm T1 was diagnosed Jan last year... i didnt take it well at all.. didnt take my insulin properly, if att all really, i too felt depressed and unable tocope and just wanted somebody to understand,

so i kind of know how you feel hun, do yo live on your own on maybe still with parent as your only 18...
just asking as im wondering how much support you get from family and friends?

i would suggest Nile you speak to your doctor about feeling depressed i finally went and waspu n anti-depressants in early december and after a few weeks i felt lke myself again and everyhing seemed to fall into place..

i also see a physcologist too which is good to get things out and discussed then discarded )

its difficult to get diagnosed at any age..

if you talk to your diabetes specialist im sure there will be a young persons diabetes group that s good for young 'uns like yourself,

but if your a shy one then talking to someone here is good even if its just a hello every now and then )

Hi Nile.

I know nothing about insulin but I'm VERY surprised that, at your age, you have been told you have T2 diabetes. I would have thought you were T1.

Anyone else here who has an opinion on this?

i actually may be curious as to why you are on insulin so quickly? i know some type 1's are on typical type 2 medication...

i think its a bit outrageous that you do not qualify for DAFNE jus because you are type 2!! i thinkanyone should be welcome that uses insulin!!

im happy to hear you have seen a doc and been referred to a physcologist, i also agree with hana to look at the link shes given you and im sure youllfind at least one person if not many that are in the same boat as you

there are alot of carb books out there that give you amount of carbs for everything from macdonalds to indian food so im sure if you look around on the net a bit youll find some info,

i would also suggest to request to see your dietician.. im booked onto DAFNE in april but in the meantime i see a dietician, he/she should be able to set you in the right direction and make carb counting alot less complicated an confusing for you nile

what are your sugars like..? (if you dont mind me asking?) just curious how your managing your diabetes with all these things running through your mind!! you havent yet managed how they are?

quite often high sugars can make you feel lethargic and own in yourself (as well as quite poorly!!)

so maybe if you can see a dietician to get some simple advice to start with (she/he will also know about all types of food so no need to worry about uncommon foods ) then you can improve your sugar levels which could also lift your mood

anyway i best stop typing before i fill the whole site hehe.

i hope you get everything sorted soon and if you ever need anything you can always give me a buzz n here or just post a topic and someone will always be there to give some advice or even just a how you doing

There is a course for type 2's, think it is called the 'X-pert Course', but can't be sure.

I think that you need to make a appointment at your diabetes clinic to discuss your meds and control, in the meantime keep a diary of food eaten and blood glucose readings to show them when you attend.

i know exactly what itslike to have extremely high spikes but sugars between 4-7 are very good in the morning so it sound like to me you may need to tweak your lantus a bit assuming you take it a night? could be wearing off early giving you high sugars twoards the end of the day?

i can understand you gving up after your tremour bless your heart! but the main thinig is your trying to get them down now which is great even if your not quite getting there yet!

my HBA1C in movember was 16.3% trrible i know, but with persevereance... alot of highs and lows igot it down to 12% in just 6 weeks, so dont give up!!

do you contact your diabetes specialist often for insulin advice? do you test often and write it down?

if not it could be a good idea to start doing this i test at least 8 time a day, then at the end of the day i write all readings into a diary, this only take 5 mins and is good to show my dc or DN results for advice )

i also would take nigels advice and ask about this course sounds like it would be gold dust for you!!
