Thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Eddie and I live in a small village just outside Dumbarton on the shores of the River Clyde. The picture in my avatar is of Dumbarton Castle which is situated on top of an inactive volcanic plug and is made of basalt which is a volcanic glass.

Since being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes my health has began to suffer, especially with the blood supply in my bowel and was hospitalised in 2009 with a ruptured bowel and they had to take a lot of my bowel away by resection. Unfortunately the reattached bowel came apart and I had septicaemia and had an emergency operation and had a colostomy which could be reversed at a future date. I decided to go ahead with the reversal in 2012, the reversal took but I had severe chest sepsis (septicaemia again) and spent a month in an ICU unit attached to a ventilator. Here's touching wood that nothing else goes wrong with my bowel but my Diabetologist has told me I'm in the early stages of Diabetic Nephropathy and need my HbA1c's to come down big time.

For fun I enjoy walking and cycling, there's a great cycle path from Loch Lomond to Glasgow. The scenery is breathtaking here too, beautiful hills and mountains that are a great day out. I'm also very fond of dogs, especially Border Collies, I had one for 14 years but she has passed away now and will always remember her.

I've also started to make dietary and exercise changes since be put on insulin and have adopted a positive mental outlook. I'm feeling better for it !
