I finally found a breakfast which works for me, scrambled egg and sausage!
I'd been told by my dietician to eat either porridge, shredded wheat, weetabix or bran flakes.. well with the porridge i got 8.6, weetabix 11.1, shredded wheat 10.6, and bran flakes 9.8. Today i got a reading of 5.7

Any other ideas which are quick and easy?
Thanks

I cut up a tomato, celery stalk, onion and half red pepper. Microwave full power for about 3 -4 mins. Season with a little salt & pepper

Plain, unsweetened low fat yoghurt + a few fresh berries

Small handful of nuts especially walnuts (could add to the yoghurt if ground up)

A 40g bowl of all bran with pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and a handful of berries (preferably blueberries) with a splash of milk and 3 tablespoons of low-fat yogurt. Very filling and keeps my bg below normal throughout the morning. Alternatively a boiled egg with 2 slices of burgen bread toasted with a generous spread of marmite on both slices..............

try the same weetabix with pumkin seeds and nuts . the fat will slow down the absobtion of the carb. i have 1 and a half weetabix spoonfull of flaxseed, spoonful of mixed pumpkin seeds and sunflowerseeds, walnuts and strawberrys. takes a while to get it all together but my bgs actually go lower in the first hour then up by 0.5 in the second. i think this is due to the overall fat content and the high fibre contained in the nuts and flaxseed. if i have the same weetabix on its own i can shoot a 10 on bgs within a hour. btw my fasting levels are between 4.8 to 5.2 and when you shoot that high that quick you soon realise how good a friend your nuts are if you excuse the pun

These all sound great! Thankyou for the suggestions, i will be trying them in the upcoming days + let you know

I can't eat carbs in the morning at all or I get the sort of readings you were, I also find that generally wheat raises my BG more than potatoes.

I have eggs and quorn 'bacon' for breakfast with mushrooms or sometimes veggies such as mushrooms and peppers, microwaved with cheese.

I can eat some carbs for lunch and tea but not in the mornings.

I noticed that Muller light vanilla yoghurt is actually lower in carbs (and sugar ) than the natural plain yoghurt that i had in the fidge. Hmm much nicer!

But sadly not suitable for vegetarians.

I posted to the low carb diet forum that I found Linwood's ground flax and nuts from the health food shop is delicious as a porridge 2:1 with soy protein and a knob of butter plus some Spenda to sweeten it. Just mix these ingredients together and pour in enough water to make a porridge like consistence - no actual cooking needed - then serve with cream or plain yoghurt. Suitable for veggies too. But rather pricey. I use 2 tabs flax mix to 1 tbs soy protein and 1-2 tsp Spenda or carb free liquid sweetener. You can skip the Soy protein if you don't like/approve of using it. it is still delicious.
