I don't think it's news that they've been trying for a while, but there were a few bits in this article that were new to me.
(before getting anyone's hopes up, it sounds like they're still a long way off a working device)
I am not too optimistic about non invasive blood sugar readings happening anytime soon. Hopeful yes but not really optimistic of anything happening in the next 5-10 years. If it does I would be really happy.

Apple have a patient for a watch based CGM. However, to date, skin sensing is not as accurate as interstitial fluid so is not used for treatment decisions; perhaps OK for Type II not using insulin.
