Not a lot!
Hi all, not been on for a while as been very busy putting our house on the market....

I have just been to see my practise nurse for a review. She gave me my latest Hba1c, it is now down to 73 (8.8) which is a lot better than the last reading of 97 (11)

My nurse had started me on Sitagliptin a few weeks ago and has now gave me Pioglitazone. That's me now on Glicazide 2 x 80mg twice a day, 1 x 100mg Sitagliptin, and 15mg of the Pioglitazone once a day. My average bs is 10.6. I low carb and walk every day. I have been referred to the Diabetic Specialist Nurse but I think that is going to take a long time before I get to see her as there is only one Nurse for our area!

I have concerns over taking the Pioglitazone as the side affects are not very good, 1 in 10 for heart failure and links to bowl cancer. I have had heart problems in the past and really don't want to be taking this.

I am getting to the stage of wanting to ask about starting Insulin.... I am very hesitant as I don't like needles but I know my health is more important. Do you think that's is why I am being referred to the DSN? Or can my practise nurse/GP make the move to Insulin?

Thanks

Do u have a diabetic doctor at your practice? If so maybe an appointment to talk over your concerns would be a good idea or any doctor really before you start taking the new meds. Well done on reducing your hba1c - that is going in the right direction.
