Unnecessary Drama.
In my lower abdomen, mainly my right side. A few years back I was told I have PCO but not PCOS and they did say it shouldn't cause me any pain and no further action was required. So, I am a bit stuck on what to do. I was told by my Diabetic nurse that because I am Diabetic I could have one, but my GP said that the lab would throw it away because of my age. When you say "ovary area" where exactly do you mean?

If you have pain in your ovary area, you'd need an ultrasound. That's the first thing I had when they diagnosed me with PCOS when I was 25yo. I would've had PCOS undiagnosed for years too they told me. When I was having a lot of pain I was sent for ultrasound after ultrasound and they did lots of blood tests. I think the smear test you're referring to will only ever be able to tell you the health of your cervix and that general area.... it wouldn't necessarily help with ovarian pain unless your pain is deferred pain from your cervix.
I don't want to be sexist but it was a male doctor that did my scan at the time and said because it was oval and not that big that it shouldn't cause pain. That's odd for them to say you shouldn't have any pain. I certainly had a lot of pain every time I had cysts on my ovaries. I came close to getting one surgically removed but it burst the night before my surgery. PCOS can be very painful. I'm on the pill to stop cysts from forming.
I would suggest you see a GP as soon as possible. It could be anything, but ovaries are delicate and need attention if they are painful. I'm not sure a smear test would show anything wrong with ovaries though. An ultra sound would be better.
I have had an ultra sound a few times in the past, and they did say that I have PCO but not PCOS, but they said it should not cause me any pain. I have had swelling on the inside of my vagina walls, and would just like to know if a smear is available for diabetics or if I need to go private for one.
Your cyst may have grown since then.
All the best gynaecologists are male. Weirdly enough.
That is okay. Thank you for posting though.I have no idea. Your GP will know.
That's okay, Thank you for your replies. It's always nice to get other peoples opinion.I'm afraid there is nothing we can do to help you. You really do need to see a doctor and press for some tests, not just a smear test but ovarian tests as well.
