Hi,
The Wagamama Noodle Restaurant chain claim to have meals for diabetics. I have recently been diagnosed with Type 2. I was looking for a restaurant to take my wife for our anniversary that is symapthetic to diabetes.

Could someone have a look at the link I have pasted and let me know what they think etc.

regards,

Pete

Hi Pete

Nice thinking!

I love Wagamama's and had a look at the link. I would be more worried about the CARB content of the meal as most of the dishes are noodle/rice based and this would affect your sugars too.

Another option would be a good steak house or something? I like Harvesters as you can get a lovely steak and massive salad (new potatoes is oyu request them instead of chips), and this means you have more control......

Nandos is also good if you like chicken (although not a posh job).

Hope this helps!

Lorna

I looked at the link and sugar info is useful, but doesn't tell you anything about totalcarbs which is what's needed.

Hi lorna,

That is exactly what I was thinking about the carb content as I have heard that is not good to have that in excess.

Nandos we like so that is OK. Probably best not have the chips though, I guess.

I never thought of Harvesters. Thanks for the tip.

I wish these restaurants like Wagamama would really check out what they are saying. I know they probably mean it all in good faith but they should be accurate with what they say they can provide.

I contacted the Wagamama head office and told them about their claims on their site. I have pasted below the reply I received. I did write back to them recommending that they look into the carbohydrate content etc and suggested they use Shirataki Noodles in one or two of their dishes.

I get the impression that they may be sympathetic etc. It possibly could be a good idea if many of us replied to the email address and they then may realise that they could be on a 'winner' if they modified one or two of the meals to suit a diabetic. What do you guys think? I think if they get many peoplem contacting them then something may happen!!

hi peter
thanks for your email
the diabetic information provided on the dietary tables is only meant as a guide and is based on the our executive chef working out the amount of sugar that is in the dishes. we have not approached diabetes.co.uk for any information at this stage.
we currently have a food scientist creating a nutritional breakdown of our full menu which will have the sugar content measured for all our dishes. we cannot confirm exactly when it will be completed but it is likely to be early this year. please be assured that we are aware of the importance of this matter
please contact me if you have any further queries
many thanks

I had this reply a few hours after I resonded to their original reply. Looks as though they are interested. I think it would be a good idea for others to write as well. Maybe a moderator could advise whether or not this is on the correct thread for most people to see.

I have pasted the email reply below.

Cheers, Pete

hi peter
at wagamama we like to think we cater very well for a variety of dietary requirements- we certainly understand how hard it must be to dine out when you have to avoid types of dishes. it can be difficult to cover everything but we want all customers to be able to dine with us

when we have our nutritional information completed we will have a full breakdown of our dishes and will include carbohydrates as well as fat content. regarding your feedback on the noodles, I will pass this on to the marketing director who is overseeing the nutritional analysis and our executive chef who decides any changes to our menus

many thanks
