An EWI is an Electronic Wind Instrument. Also known as a Wind Synth. It looks like a black plastic clarinet and is attached to a computer bank. - A synth that is controlled by air rather than touch. Not often used but featured quite heavily in the large band versions (ie. Film, cast recording and West End production) of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ, Superstar.
