Accu-chek pumps arrived!

I also have the spirit pump, but i didn't get a spare one so thats jammy of you. It's really easy to use so don't worry, i didn't do the water thing though just straight onto insulin. Keep us updated, it'll be cool to chat with someone else on the pump.

I figit at night as well and am often quite restless, the pump is pretty tough and you can roll over on it without damaging it, i got a white soft belt with my pump which is great as you can then position the pump where you want it, you could always attach it to your arm, my place is an icecube and i have a pj hoodie with a pocket and i usually put it there, it does fall out during the night but i haven't damaged it yet. I think the pumps are made quite tough to deal with everyday life.

I wasn't given a choice - have got to have the medtronic. That's probably because my consultant doesn't think it's going to work so has borrowed one. Doesn't give you much hope when he's so defeatist.
I go straight on to insulin on the 28th. 12 more sleeps lol

Even if hes not being optomistic try and make sure you are. Getting started on the pump can be quite hard work but it does get easier, and it has worked for me, on my day to day tests it doesn't show up in neon lights but i can see a definate improvement when looking at my results on a spreadsheet and my HbA1c proves it 10.2 - 8.3 in 3 months. So even if your consultant isn't being enthusiastic about it stay positive when you get it and give it time to work.

hi there new to this forum thing but spotted this chat.
I'm sick of my current diabetes managment and was thinking along the lines of a pump or similar.
how do you find it (anyone) in comparison with everything else.

I've been on the pump since September and i love it, i would hate to go back to injections now, my control is already better and the fatty lumps i had on my stomach from insulin build up have reduced.

thanks for your reply.
my control has never been great and all my team to suggest is more injections with larger doses i am doing all i can, exercise diet etc. but as you mentioned about yourself fatty lumps are a big problem.
my lifestyle is pretty fast i am a student midwife and try to do twelve hour shifts and night shift too. i think the pump would work much better for me.
do you find it fits round your life better than you fitting round it???

I too have a busy schedule, i work monday to friday 9:00 - 17:15 as an accounts assistant and then work thursday night 19:00 - 00:00 and friday/Saturday night 21:00 - 02:00 stacking shelves, (i need the money as my wages are rubbish until i've qualified). I also go to college on a monday night so i don't get to eat anything proper for tea untill about 22:00. The great thing about the pump is because it gives you a contiuous dose of insulin (i have 0.8u per hour, which is then split down and administered every 3 minutes)it doesn't matter if your eating patterns are erratic because you bolus when you eat and when you don't the basal rate keeps you stable. I'm usually very busy over the weekend as well and really find the pump is fitting in with me and i'm not having to fit in with diabetes any more. Its just so easy, if i'm eating out i don't have to worry about injecting in public or going to the toilet to inject, i can just program the pump in seconds at the table and that's it.
