I've been diabetic (Type 2) for several years, and had to start injecting insulin in November last year. I'm not overweight, have always walked a lot, but in the last few weeks I've been getting pain in my feet and lower legs if l walk for more than about 15 minutes. I have to slow down and sometimes even stop because the pain is so bad and my ankles feel like they are seizing up. If I have a bit of a rest then push on, the pain subsides, but its really unpleasant while it lasts. Getting my blood sugar under control with insulin has been a bit of a struggle, but it seems that as I've been getting better at it, the pain has been getting worse. My BS has been averaging 7.1 in the last month, and at my last foot check in January, my feet were fine, but the pain seems to be getting worse.I've read that diabetic neuropathy can get worse when you first get your blood sugar under control, does anyone have any experience of this? I'm a keen country walker in the warmer months of the year (if they ever arrive!) and wouldn't like to think my walking days are over...

A few months later a teacher on a course I was attending (a keep fit enthusiast) said it was lactic acid build up and to start walking very slowly and gradually pick

Sorry, pressed submit by mistake! Anyhoo - pick up speed gradually. I tried it and it worked. Don't know if this will help but hopefully it does as pain sounds similar. If it doesn't get really insistent with your doctor looking back I should have done that too. Hope you get this sorted soon
