advice about pump waiting list

we waited a year form first asking for a pump, however we had been struggling for 4 years previous to that trying everything going and learnt to carb count to help our cause we did have a DSN who fought our corner for us.

i know alot of people wait about a year to get a pump but i have to say the wait has been so worth it for us anyway we love the pump dylan is far more stable and can have treats without it throwing him out for hours at a time.

hope u find out soon and dont have to wait too much longer

I personally waited over a year from asking for a pump to being actually connected..

There were a few requirements inbetween that slowed the process, learning to carb count wa sone of them which was another waiting list.

I was also held back because the pump nurse at my hospital was off sick for a few months.

I was originally told i was 'third' on the list when i was given the definate 'YES you can have a pump'

It might take a while after your appointments, but it might not. i've heard different hospitals work in different ways so i guess you can't be sure.

But at least your getting there and trust me if you work hard it'll definately be worth the wait

I didn't hear anything about waiting lists in the process of getting my pump, but I think I may have just been a bit lucky all round with the process. Only took about 6 months from when I first saw them and I mentioned pumps to me getting plugged in. I had already investigated them a bit after them being mentioned in another country to me, and already knew what I was doing with the carb counting (if not always getting it right).

I went to one of these meetings on Thursday, the DSN will ring me tomorrow to get things going . They said they apply for PCT funding (takes about 2-4 weeks) then once they have 2 or 3 of us approved who want the same type of pump, they'll start us together. Didn't mention a waiting list. There is a waiting list for DAFNE though so that could delay things if they insist you do that first.

Input http://www.input.me.uk/faqs/ have some useful information. They say PCTs are not allowed to cap the number of pump users and DAFNE first is not essential. Although that wouldn't stop the hospital having a waiting list to reflect staff capacity to train and support pumpers.

I have done dafne last year, so she said as long as everyone is carb trained etc we were good to go.

so so happy about this, and she said I would be getting the medtronic paradigm veo so I am off now to google this and see what its like - and I also get to pick the colour I want
