Welcome Paul
Yes most of us have had the same help from out Dr, but if my experience is anything to go by any advice you do receive from your Dr or nurse will be outdated and not much use.
Got to admit being out of balance is a new one on me and about as useful as a chocolate fireguard.
The bad news is you are on your own.
But the good news is you are on your own, what you do in terms of altering your diet and possibly changing your lifestyle (it's mainly about what you eat) will have more of an effect on your diabetes than anything your Dr can do.
Have a read around the forum to get an idea of what needs to change,
(hint, it's all about the carbs) ask anything you need to, there is always someone here willing to help if they can.
The link below my post for the nutritional thingy is a good starting point
