advice on meter reading

I haven't been properly tested for diabetes yet (I have the appointment) but suspect type 2 due to tiredness and thirst. Apperently you have to have 2 fatsing glucose tests before they do an intolerance test. Thing is, I am too impatient and want to find out

I bought a meter which read 4.9 and then had a meal with around 25g carbs - afterwards I felt tired, measured at that moment (around half hour) and it was 7.2

I've looked at glucose levels on the internet and this apparently normal but I don't really know what I'm doing and just want a bit of advice on whether this is normal for that amount of carbs?

Tayla,

I would test again 2-3 hours later and come back again with the results, but do keep in mind that we are not qualified to give a diagnosis on here and you would be far better waiting for your test results from your gp.

You need to take the following measurements:

1) Before meal (to capture your pre-meal Blood Glucose level)
2) 1 hour AFTER meal (to capture your PEAK post meal Blood Glucose level - this reading should be the highest of the 3)
3) 2 hours AFTER your meal (to capture you Blood Glucose Level AFTER the initial spike - this whould be somewhere between the 2 previous readings)

This will tell you how your body is dealing with the food you are eating.

Thanks a lot, at 1 hour it was 6.5 and at 2 hours 5.5

I do have high blood pressure so would that speed up the process?

Those readings look fine to me but best to wait until you have your fasting/intolerance results back. Take a look at the following from the community pages of DCUK:
