I have been diagnosed with pre diabetes of 44 in March. Lost 15kgs now have normal being etc. Walk 5 times a week for over an hour briskly. In June result 42. Had recent test that is now 44 even though i have maintained my weight still exercise and low carbs the only thing that happened within the last month just before my test was that i was ill with bacterial gastroenteritis and had to have antibiotics, ill for nearly 3 weeks. Please can anyone offer some help as i really do not think i can lose anymore weight as i will look ill.. and am already following a very healthy low carb vegan diet. Thankyou

I wouldn't panic. When we are unwell our blood glucose levels do rise.

You seem to be doing really well! Your Hba1c is a great level, well done at keeping it within that range. It is not easy and your hard work is helping. One gp said to me sometimes you will try and try and it doesn’t help it’ll go up over time. So each hba1c test may fluctuate or not quite be where you expected, but try feel proud and positive for all you’ve done regardless of the result you get at each blood test over time.
You have lost lots of weight that is amazing! Best of luck with your continued diabetes journey, so far it seems you are doing really well! Agree, illness leads to higher blood glucose levels, that’s beyond our control and healing can be slower with diabetes. Carry on as you are, and know the result is the best it can be.

@Jane1999 - you don't have to lose weight to maintain a good/low glucose level on a low carb diet. It can work equally well even if you're overweight for which I'm living proof...Weight loss is generally just a bonus, it's essentially the reduction in carbs that works the magic.

But definitely illness, and stress, pain etc, can all affect our glucose levels, and you'll probably find anyway that your HbA1c results will fluctuate slightly both up and down within a fairly small range - we live in the real world, not a laboratory controlled environment! So stop fretting, you're doing fine.
